Quality of light

A few nice views of Semipalmated Plovers (Charadrius semipalmatus) on the tidal flats in Bodega Harbor on 30 September.  There is something very special about the quality of light at this time of year.

These images highlight the visual nature of plover foraging.  With large eyes and short bills, plovers are looking for food and picking it up from the surface of the tidal flats (rather than the sandpiper method of probing deeply into the mud and locating food by touch).
